I am always looking for ways to cut down my environmental footprint.  For example, I will reuse and recycle wherever practical and possible.  One thing I am especially concerned about is minimising the risks of VOCs.

VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) are carbon-based chemicals that are found in a number of household products, including air fresheners, moth balls and cosmetics.  In my particular line of work they are most often found in:

  • Paints
  • Solvents
  • Sealing caulks
  • Composite wood products
  • Varnishes

There are numerous health concerns associated with VOCs.  In the short term, exposure to high levels of VOCs can result in symptoms such as:

  • Eye, nose and throat irritation
  • Headaches
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Dizziness
  • Worsening of asthma symptoms

Severe long term exposure can increase the risk of:

  • Cancer
  • Kidney damage
  • Liver damage
  • Central Nervous System damage

These are all things that I want to avoid!  I’m sure you do to, so that is why I take particular care with the products I use.  You can rest assured that any product that I work with will be VOC free or they will be present in minimal quantities.

The paint may not always be green, but you can be certain it is environmentally friendly!
